Semiotics

SUBJECTS

This section includes pages devoted to specific areas of Semiotics. Our aim is to provide, for each area, Web resources, electronic texts, and an essential bibliography in order either to have a first glance at the subject or to find more specific materials. We apologize for some information may still be unavailable; in this case we invite you to come back and visit us again. The list of subjects we have included here is certainly not complete, and it reflects the experience and interest of the authors. Suggestions and corrections are welcome.

VISUAL SEMIOTICS
(by Paolo Peverini)
Visual languages in the wide sense of the expression: figurative art, cinema, TV, comics... (in Italian).

NARRATIVITY
One of the most typical areas of application of Semiotics is the analysis of literary texts, and especially narrative ones. This section is dedicated to semiotics of the novel and to narrativity (in Italian).

COGNITIVE SCIENCE AND SEMIOTICS
Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary field that studies the human mind, at the crossroad of medical, human and social sciences. It pays special attention to the relationship between mind, brain and artificial intelligence. Semiotics shares with cognitive sciences many concepts and categories and cannot avoid a contact with this large field of study (in Italian).

SOCIOSEMIOTICS AND APPLIED SEMIOTICS
Semiotic applications in the social field are useful and provide materials for the researcher; other fields continue to come into the area of semiotics, such as biology and zoology. Here is a guide for those who are interested in these applications (in Italian).

SEMIOTICS AND EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
(by Giorgio Lo Feudo)
The process of communication that is involved in education and training has been changed by the introduction of computer and multimedia technology. This area is dedicated to possible intersections between semiotics and educational technologies.
