More Details:

We are looking for 'overview' articles for future numbers of PHILOSOPHY NOW magazine.

The 'overviews' have been a regular feature of the magazine for the last year, and have had a very enthusiastic response from our readers. Each one is a roundup of current academic activity in a particular area of philosophy, written for the interested layperson as well as for the benefit of philosophers in other fields. So far we have published articles on:

What's New in Ancient Philosophy  (ISSUE 20)
What's New in Philosophy of Religion  (ISSUE 21)
What's New in Medical Ethics  (ISSUE 22)
What's New in Chinese Philosophy.  (ISSUE 23)

We need overviews on philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, aesthetics, applied ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of science and a whole range of other fields.   It is true that writing them is quite hard work, but on the other hand our overview writers do have the ideal excuse to ask the world's leading thinkers in the field for their views on the whole direction of that area of philosophy. (This is something we strongly encourage, and previous overviewers have contacted figures such as Richard Sorabji, Peter van Inwagen, Richard Swinburne, Alvin Plantinga, Paul Helm, Jonathan Glover and Tu Wei-ming for their input).

PHILOSOPHY NOW overviews are 2500-3500 words long.  We encourage an accessible, informal style.  There is a sample (the one on Ancient Philosophy) on our website (URL below).

If you don't want to write an overview yourself, do please feel free to pass this message to any other qualified individuals (eg colleagues or PhD students) who you think might be able to write one.  If you are thinking of writing one, do please email me with your proposed topic before starting. Thanks!
